Canada's Women's Rugby Team gets sponsorship boost
in Rugby World Cup year!
Rugby Canada is pleased to announce the signing
of a major sponsorship deal with LandLink Consulting
Ltd. that will provide Canada's National Women's
Team with much needed financial support as it
readies for competition at the Women's Rugby World
Cup. LandLink Consulting is a project administration
firm that specializes in the field of natural
disaster recovery programs. Canada's Women's Team,
ranked 4th in the world, will compete in the Women's
Rugby World Cup in Barcelona, Spain in May 2002.
"Our company is pleased to sponsor the Canadian
National Women's Rugby team", commented Mr.
Rick Thrall, Managing Partner of LandLink Consulting
Ltd. "This team embodies the traditional
Canadian characteristics of hard work, tenacity,
and innovation. The LandLink corporate goal of
'moving ideas to reality' parallels the National
Women's transition of vision of on field success
for the 2002 Women's Rugby World Cup. We are confident
that the spirit of the LandLink organization will
be very well represented by the indomitable spirit
of our National Women's team".
"I couldn't be more thrilled" comments
Roxanne Butler, National Women's Team Director,
"this new sponsorship support will definitely
alleviate any worries of player fees. Never before
has Canada attended a Women's World Cup Championship
without the players paying a fee." "
But, it means much more than this", Butler
is quick to point out, "it means that Women's
Rugby is finally starting to become noticed in
the sport marketplace. The players have been doing
their part, training hard and preparing to be
the best they can be, and at the same time attending
to school, careers and family, and finally their
efforts are starting to pay off".
This financial support from LandLink comes on
the heels of the Team's first ever kit sponsorship,
courtesy of Kudu USA, which has committed to outfitting
the Team on and off the field. Both commercial
deals were struck by Ottawa based sport marketing
agency, Baslaw & Associates. Furthermore,
Canada's Women's Rugby World Cup team will also
receive significant financial support from Rugby
Canada and the International Rugby Board.
Women's rugby in Canada has grown from a handful
of teams a few years ago to an estimated 20,000
participants today, making it one of the fastest
growing sports in this country. Not unlike women's
hockey, Rugby Canada is bracing itself for a sharp
increase in player registration and sponsorship
interest in the women's game should the National
Women's Team make it to the 2002 Women's Rugby
World Cup championship match.
